Porgy and Bess was written by George Gershwin and Porgy and Bess: A Symphonic Picture was arranged by Robert Russell Bennett. This abridged version has been NYO-USA’s signature encore since the orchestra’s inaugural tour in 2013.

Each summer, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute brings together the brightest young musicians from across the country (ages 16-19) to form the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA). In 2014, following a two-week training residency with leading professional orchestra musicians, these remarkable teenagers were joined by conductor David Robertson and violinist Gil Shaham for an eight-city coast-to-coast US tour.
