Benjamin Eric Sasse ( /ˈsæs/ SASS; born February 22, 1972) is an American politician serving as the junior United States Senator for Nebraska since 2015. He is a member of the Republican Party.
Born in Plainview, Nebraska, Sasse holds a bachelor’s degree in government from Harvard University, Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from St. John’s College and masters and doctorate degrees in American history from Yale University. He taught at the University of Texas and served as an assistant secretary in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In 2010, he was named 15th President of Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska. In 2014, he successfully ran for a vacant seat in the U.S. Senate, defeating Democratic nominee David Domina by 65% to 31%.
